Thousands stranded as Abuja-Kaduna Highway gridlock persists ahead of Eid
Severe gridlock on Abuja-Kaduna Highway has left thousands of travelers stranded since Monday, with journeys taking 12+ hours instead of the normal 3 hours. The congestion affects both private and commercial vehicles heading to northern Nigeria for Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, caused by festive traffic, ongoing road construction, and heavy rainfall. One traveler lamented: 'Flight from Kano to Lagos is about half a million naira, which I can't afford. I decided to travel by road, and this is where I ended up, spending more than six hours.' FRSC recommends using the Kachia-Bwari route as an alternative to bypass the congestion. In response, Federal Government has directed immediate reopening of all road sections under construction along the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway. Minister of Works David Umahi gave the directive to contractor Infiouest Nigeria Limited to ease congestion during the festive period. The alternative route may add significant travel time compared to the normal route. Will you risk the gridlock on the main highway, take the Kachia-Bwari alternative route (adding hours to your journey), or delay your Eid travel plans until after the peak congestion period?
