Tinubu appoints Namdas as BCDA DG, Obahiagbon to NDPHC role effective immediately
President Bola Tinubu appointed Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas as Director General of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA) and Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon as Executive Director, Strategy & Commercial of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), per a Friday statement by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga. Namdas replaces Dr Dakorinama Alabo George, who resigned to contest an Adamawa State elective post, while Obahiagbon replaces Engineer Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, who left for political aspirations in Edo State. Chukwuma Umeoji was reappointed as NDPHC Executive Director, Corporate Services after resigning for his Anambra State political ambition.
Namdas, a former Adamawa State House of Representatives member (Ganye/Jada/Mayo Belwa/Toungo constituency) and 8th House spokesperson, also served as Chief Press Secretary to ex-Governor Boni Haruna. Obahiagbon previously served in the Edo State House of Assembly and National Assembly. All appointments took effect immediately, filling vacancies created by appointees pursuing elective offices in their home states—a common pattern in Nigeria’s political cycle where technocrats transition to partisan politics.
These appointments fill key roles in border development and power sector management, sectors critical to national security and economic stability. With Namdas’ legislative and PR background, what priorities might he bring to BCDA’s mandate of developing border communities? How might Obahiagbon’s legislative experience shape NDPHC’s strategy amid ongoing power sector reforms?
