Tinubu approves N17 billion task force for 8,804 wards development
President Bola Tinubu has approved the creation of a Community-Based National Social Action Fund Task Force to drive grassroots development across Nigeria's 8,804 wards. The initiative allocates N17 billion in dedicated funding for community groups to implement priority development projects valued up to N50 million each. Each ward will partner with verified community-based organizations to execute tailored socio-economic projects, building on earlier reforms including the Social Action Fund established in September 2023 and Community-Based Procurement Platform introduced in January 2026. Implementation begins March 1 with completion targeted for December. The task force, chaired by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, includes ministers from Finance, Humanitarian Affairs, and senior officials from procurement, budget office, and anti-corruption agencies. A dedicated Programme Management Unit within the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare will supervise execution and ensure accountability mechanisms nationwide. With this funding, which communities will lead development initiatives in your local ward, and how should residents participate in project selection and implementation to ensure maximum benefit?
