President Bola Tinubu announced that the Nigerian Army has operationalised new formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun states, positioning troops closer to vulnerable communities to improve swift response to security threats. He said the Federal Government is also fast‑tracking the construction of new military barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi, while facilities in Osun State have already been completed. Tinubu added that the recent increase in the Armed Forces’ pay is already making a difference for servicemen, women and their families, and stressed that as more is demanded from the troops, more support must be given to them and their families.

These measures aim to strengthen the military’s ability to react quickly when civilians are threatened, addressing gaps that have allowed banditry and other violence to persist in the northwest and southwest. By locating troops nearer to hotspots and improving barracks, the government hopes to reduce response times and boost morale among personnel. The pay raise, though not quantified in the statement, is presented as a tangible benefit that directly affects military households.

With troops now stationed closer to areas like Zamfara and Kebbi, residents may see faster military intervention during attacks; however, the effectiveness will depend on how quickly the new formations can be mobilised and whether local vigilantes continue to play a role. Will you notice a change in security response in your area, or do you think additional community‑based efforts are still needed?
