President Tinubu announced in his Democracy Day message that Nigeria's electricity sector reforms are yielding results, especially through the Rural Electrification Agency's off-grid solar projects for underserved communities. He highlighted the Electricity Act's implementation, which decentralizes power distribution, and the Presidential Power Sector Task Force's work to resolve the metering gap and settle over N4 trillion in verified legacy debts using an authorized N4 trillion bond.

DAILY POST reports the federal government has intensified deployment of solar-powered mini-grids nationwide, with more than 1,000 projects rolled out to improve electricity access in rural and underserved areas. The REA receives support from the World Bank and African Development Bank for these initiatives.

These reforms aim to end longstanding power supply challenges by expanding access beyond the national grid. For households and businesses, this could mean more reliable electricity in previously unserved areas, reduced dependence on expensive generators, and new opportunities in the growing solar energy sector as infrastructure expands.

With over 1,000 solar mini-grids now being deployed and metering reforms underway, will you explore solar alternatives for your home or business, or consider how improved grid reliability might affect your operational costs and productivity?
