Tinubu pays Super Falcons $100k each for 10th WAFCON title, matching D'Tigress reward
President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 promise to each Super Falcons player after Nigeria's record-extending 10th WAFCON title in July 2025. The National Sports Commission confirms players have begun receiving approximately ₦140 million each — the naira equivalent of the presidential pledge made after the team's dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the final, where they overturned a 2-0 deficit.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade praised the gesture as recognition of the Falcons' contribution to Nigerian sports. This marks the second major women's team Tinubu has rewarded at this level: D'Tigress received identical $100,000 payments per player after securing a fifth consecutive FIBA Women's AfroBasket title in 2025.
The Commission notes this consistency strengthens athlete confidence and establishes a culture where sporting excellence receives tangible recognition. Since taking office in May 2023, Tinubu's administration has extended similar support across multiple national teams.
With the Falcons now ten-time African champions and D'Tigress dominating continental basketball, the question shifts from reward to sustainability: Will these cash incentives translate into better training infrastructure, youth development pipelines, and professional league structures that keep Nigeria's women's teams dominant for the next decade?

₦140 million in this economy is not bad. Not bad at all. My only take it that I wish we can also start sharing $100k for top talents in the STEM space.
It doesnt have to be football or STEM. It can be both.
Let's invest into STEM talents as well.
