Tinubu renews NTA DG, NAN MD tenures for second term starting Oct 20
President Tinubu has renewed the tenures of Nigerian Television Authority Director-General Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos and News Agency of Nigeria Managing Director Ali Mohammed Ali for second three-year terms each, effective October 20, 2026. The announcement came via State House press release on August 23, signed by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu urged both executives to justify his confidence by continuing to demonstrate commitment to their organisations' mandates and promotion of his Renewed Hope Agenda. He framed the renewals as performance-based votes of confidence, not routine administrative actions, noting their initial appointments began October 20, 2023.
Dembos, a Yola native who joined NTA in 1989 after NYSC, rose through ranks before retiring in 2017 and returning as Executive Director of Marketing prior to his 2023 DG appointment. Ali, a Bayero University Kano graduate with over 30 years media experience, holds degrees in English and International Affairs plus a Mass Communications PGD.
The renewals follow Tinubu's pattern of extending agency heads' tenures, like NSCDC Commandant-General Audi's five-year renewal in March 2026. They come amid ongoing NTA reforms addressing digitization commitments from 2023, infrastructure gaps, declining ad revenue and platform competition—challenges Nairametrics reported persist despite government commitments.
