Tinubu secures APC ticket as 2027 election season heats up nationwide
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has won the All Progressives Congress presidential ticket for 2027 elections with 10,999,162 votes across 8,809 wards, defeating his sole challenger Stanley Osifo in a landslide. This confirms his re-election bid and shows his strong grip on party structure ahead of the general elections.
Meanwhile, security concerns remain elevated as suspected bandits attacked a prayer ground in Kwara State, killing three worshippers and abducting 15 during a Friday night vigil in Ekiti Local Government Area. In Kogi State, three abducted passengers escaped their captors after criminals fell asleep in the forest.
On the political front, former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami has been affirmed as the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Kebbi State, while Chief Michael Aondoakaa becomes the PDP candidate in Benue with 38-year-old Oyije Ogbenjuwa as running mate. Thousands of PDP members in Jigawa also endorsed Mustapha Sule Lamido as their governorship candidate.
President Tinubu admitted that economic reforms have been grueling, stating he has personally lost sleep and weight alongside Nigerians bearing the brunt of the policies. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency also arrested a 63-year-old Chinese woman for allegedly smuggling synthetic cannabis into Nigeria at Lagos airport.
With major party positions now secured for 2027, Nigerians should prepare for what promises to be a highly competitive election cycle focusing on security, economic recovery, and governance reform.
