Tinubu sends NDDC 2026 budget proposal to the House for approval
President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the Niger Delta Development Commission’s (NDDC) 2026 statutory budget proposal to the House of Representatives for consideration and approval. The proposal, contained in a letter dated August 20, 2026 addressed to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, was received by the National Assembly on September 24 and outlines the NDDC’s planned revenue and expenditure for the upcoming fiscal year.
The budget prioritizes youth empowerment, energy, education, industry, health, security, and agriculture across the nine Niger Delta states, aiming to improve living conditions and reduce poverty. It aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the 2024–2026 Economic Recovery Growth Plan, and its approval will shape development spending in a region critical to Nigeria’s oil economy.
The NDDC oversees infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and human capital projects in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers states. Lawmakers will review the proposal as part of the broader statutory budget process ahead of 2026; citizens can track whether the proposed allocations translate into tangible projects in their localities and engage with their representatives on priorities.
