President Bola Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025 into law, shifting the 2025 budget implementation deadline from September 30, 2026 to December 31, 2026. The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the assent in a statement on Wednesday, noting the National Assembly passed the bill on Tuesday with both Senate and House approval.

The extension gives Ministries, Departments and Agencies additional three months to finish ongoing capital projects and ensure appropriated funds are fully utilized without disrupting key government programmes. Tinubu praised the lawmakers’ swift passage, calling it a sign of healthy Executive-Legislature cooperation in the national interest.

For citizens, the change means federal projects—roads, hospitals, schools—may see revised completion dates. While the extra time could allow contractors to finish work properly, it also raises questions about whether agencies will use the window efficiently or simply postpone accountability. Will this extension lead to better‑finished infrastructure in your community, or just delay the delivery of services you rely on?
