President Bola Tinubu signed into law the Appropriation (Amendment) (No.4) Bill, 2025, on September 30, 2026, extending the implementation period of the 2025 budget from September 30 to December 31, 2026. The assent followed the bill’s passage by the Senate and House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, according to a statement by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga.

The extension gives Ministries, Departments and Agencies additional time to complete ongoing capital projects and ensures that funds already appropriated are fully put to work for Nigerians without disrupting critical programmes. Tinubu commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration, describing their action as a sign of continued cooperation between the executive and legislature in the service of the nation.

With the budget now set to run through the end of the year, MDAs can finalize projects such as road construction, healthcare facilities, and power infrastructure that were scheduled for completion in 2025. The move aims to avoid lapses in spending and maintain momentum in development initiatives that impact citizens’ daily lives.

Will this extra three months allow agencies to deliver completed projects and visible benefits before the year ends, or will bureaucratic delays persist despite the extended timeline?
