Tinubuaccepts IGP resignation, appoints Disu as acting police chief
President Bola Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, who cited family reasons. Bayo Onanuga, the President's Special Adviser on Information, announced this in a statement. Egbetokun, appointed in June 2023 for a four-year term ending June 2027, submitted his resignation citing pressing family considerations. The President expressed appreciation for his service and dedication to strengthening internal security. Acting IGP Tunji Disu has been appointed to lead the force during this critical period, with the President expressing confidence in his operational depth and leadership. Disu's appointment takes immediate effect, and the Nigeria Police Council will convene to consider his substantive appointment. This follows the Attorney General's earlier defense of Egbetokun's tenure, which was challenged by critics. The President reiterated his commitment to enhancing national security and institutional capacity.
