News Troops detonate roadside bomb in Borno Published on April 19, 2026 By Nana Ismail Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have discovered and safely detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in Mairari town along the Gajiram axis of Borno State. Counter-security analyst Zagazola Makama posted on X that the device was detected at about 9 am on April 17 by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and route-scanning team deployed from a Forward Operating Base in the area. According to sources, “the IED was found at the edge of the town’s exit gate,” raising concerns about possible threats to civilians and security personnel using the route. The EOD team later carried out a controlled detonation of the device without incident. After the operation, the area was carefully scanned to ensure no other explosives were present. Preliminary findings indicate that the device may have been planted by insurgents before troops were deployed to the location. Sources added that while the general security situation across the area remains calm, it is still unpredictable. They noted that ongoing military operations are aimed at securing communities and keeping key routes safe.
