Trump demands Nobel Peace Prize amid Gaza ceasefire collapse and ICC sanctions push

Trump is aggressively pursuing a Nobel Peace Prize, claiming he ended eight wars including Israel-Hamas and Israel-Iran conflicts, despite evidence showing the Gaza ceasefire he supposedly brokered has largely collapsed. He presented Venezuelan opposition leader Marina Corina Machado with her 2025 Nobel medal as a "proxy" after the Committee denied him the real prize, then lashed out at winners like Navi Pillay, calling the Committee "forever discredited" and its members "radical ideologues."

The reality on the ground contradicts Trump's peace claims: since the October 10, 2025 ceasefire took effect, Israeli forces have struck Gaza on 325 of the first 361 days, killing at least 1,493 Palestinians (including women and children) and wounding 5,299 more according to Gaza Health Ministry and UN reports. Meanwhile, Trump has imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court amid fears of indictment for war crimes in Gaza and Iran.

For Nigerians, this matters because Trump's actions undermine the very international institutions - like the ICC and post-WWII global order - that Nigeria relies on for diplomatic engagement, justice, and stability. His pursuit of the Nobel appears less about peace and more about evading accountability for actions that have devastated civilians.

As Trump pushes for recognition to shield himself from consequences, will Nigerians see this as a warning about how powerful nations' delusions can destabilize the systems we all depend on, or accept his narrative at face value despite the evidence on the ground?
