U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that Iran must cease uranium enrichment as a non-negotiable condition for any lasting Middle East peace agreement. In a series of posts on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that many points of his 15-point ceasefire proposal have been accepted by Iran. He further claimed the U.S. will assist Tehran in excavating enriched uranium he says was buried following U.S. strikes last summer, describing it as "Nuclear ‘Dust’ (B-2 Bombers)" under satellite surveillance.

In a direct warning to other nations, Trump announced that any country supplying military weapons to Iran will immediately face a 50% tariff on all goods exported to the United States, with "no exceptions or exemptions." He also indicated ongoing discussions about tariff and sanctions relief with Iran.

For Nigeria, this development primarily signals potential volatility in global oil markets. As Africa's largest oil producer, Nigeria's economy and fuel prices are sensitive to Middle East stability and supply disruptions. Any shift in Iran's nuclear capabilities or renewed tensions could impact crude oil prices, directly affecting petrol costs and inflation locally. The U.S. tariff threat may also ripple through global trade networks, potentially affecting the cost of imported goods.

With fuel prices already a critical domestic issue, how might a new geopolitical flashpoint in the Middle East affect your household budget and business operations?
