UBA Chairman Tony Elumelu to Retire Aug 21, 2026; Nnorom Succeeds
United Bank for Africa Plc announced that Group Chairman Tony O. Elumelu, CFR, will retire from the Board of Directors on 21 August 2026, upon completing the 12-year tenure limit for non-executive directors set by the Central Bank of Nigeria. At its meeting on 6 July 2026, the Board accepted his resignation and elected fellow Non-Executive Director Emmanuel N. Nnorom as his successor, effective the same date.
Elumelu's tenure transformed UBA into a pan-African institution operating in 20 African countries and four global financial centres-London, New York, Paris and Dubai-and serving over 50 million customers. He described his service as a privilege and expressed confidence in Nnorom's integrity, experience and sound judgement to continue the bank's growth.
Nnorom, a chartered accountant with more than forty years of experience in banking, finance and audit, said he feels honoured to inherit Elumelu's legacy and looks forward to working with the Board, management and staff across UBA's markets to sustain momentum and deliver long-term value to shareholders, customers and stakeholders.
