Udinese manager Kosta Runjaić gave Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye a final warning after his mistake directly caused Udinese's loss to Torino, saying any further big errors in the upcoming Lecce match could bring serious consequences. Okoye joined the Italian club from Watford in summer 2023 and has been an important player for Udinese.

The warning matters because Okoye is Nigeria's first-choice goalkeeper; his form influences both the Super Eagles and his standing in Serie A. Runjaić said Okoye has the ability to rank among the league's top five goalkeepers if he shows full commitment, but repeated mistakes carry heavy penalties and could cost him his place at Udinese and weaken Nigeria's defensive options. He added that Okoye fully understands that his action led to the goal that defeated Torino, noting that throughout a match players make numerous decisions and that particular one was poor.

Ahead of Udinese's Sunday game against Lecce (October 20, 2026), the manager emphasized that every error has substantial consequences and the squad needs the right balance of composure and focus. He recalled that during the previous two matches Udinese controlled play and Okoye was not required to make significant contributions, stressing that they must establish the appropriate equilibrium. Runjaić also noted that the club has invested considerable time in Okoye's coaching and development.

Will Okoye tighten up and deliver the consistent performances needed to keep his Udinese spot and remain the Eagles's first choice, or will another slip-up push him further down the pecking order?
