UK data watchdog ICO fined Reddit £14.5 million ($19.5 million) for unlawfully collecting children's data without proper age checks or risk assessments. The regulator found Reddit failed to verify users' ages until July 2025 despite prohibiting under-13s, exposing minors to harmful content. Reddit plans to appeal the decision. This follows UK's broader push to tighten online safety laws amid concerns over deepfakes and social media bans for under-16s.
