UK Nigerians can renew passports from home, get them in days
Nigeria’s Immigration Service has launched a contactless passport renewal system for Nigerians living in the United Kingdom, allowing applicants to complete the process from home and receive their new passports at their doorstep within days. Interviewees in Birmingham, Coventry, Newport, Leeds, Essex and London reported receiving passports in as little as four to five days, a stark contrast to the previous six‑month wait that required a trip to London for biometrics and incurred significant travel and accommodation costs. The reform, led by Comptroller General Kemi Nanna Nandap and Minister Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo, eliminates the need for costly travel, reduces uncertainty, and restores dignity to a service long seen as an endurance test. While many praise the speed and convenience, experts warn that sustaining this performance and extending it to all diaspora communities will be the real test of reform.
