Ukeji rebukes APC governors, defends Wike's Rainbow Coalition ahead of 2027 polls

Political communications strategist Ben Ukeji has criticised the Progressive Governors Forum for distancing itself from Minister Nyesom Wike's Rainbow Coalition, which backs APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu for the 2027 elections while remaining rooted in the PDP. Speaking on Arise News, Ukeji said Wike has not done anything wrong by forming the coalition, noting that politics is largely about self-interest and that Wike, though not an APC member, was appointed minister on political considerations and must advance his party's interests. He pointed out that Wike's earlier G5 group helped Tinubu's emergence by delivering states where Atiku lost, creating an advantage for the current president. Ukeji added that the APC-aligned governors should focus on their own responsibilities instead of opposing a PDP figure working to secure victories for his candidates. According to INEC's recently released senatorial candidate list, Wike's PDP faction fields over 100 candidates nationwide, a factor that has caused confusion within the APC and prompted the Progressive Governors Forum to publicly distance itself from the Rainbow Coalition. Ukeji questioned why the governors are jittery, saying Wike won't do their job and urging them to improve their own performance.
