Ukraine launched an overnight drone assault on Russian energy, digital and transport infrastructure in Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad region, striking the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal—the main Baltic fuel export hub—and the Ruchi gasoline and diesel storage depot. Drones also hit VK’s major data center, the nearby Vostochnaya 330 kV substation (leaving thousands without power), an Ozon warehouse in Kolpino that caught fire, and the Korabelny Fairway bridge. Governor Aleksandr Drozdenko said about 150 drones were shot down, confirming Ukraine launched hundreds in the retaliatory strike.

For Nigerians, the attack on a key Russian oil export point could tighten global fuel supplies and lift crude prices. As Africa’s top oil producer, Nigeria might gain higher export revenue, yet any pump‑price increase would hit household budgets if subsidies are reduced. The move also adds volatility to global markets that influence the naira and import costs.

Oil traders are already watching Brent crude for a reaction; Nigerians should monitor NNPC updates and petrol station prices in the coming days. Will you adjust your travel or spending plans if fuel costs rise, or hope the boost in crude revenue translates into better public services?
