UK Defence Minister John Healey asserts the only solution to restore crude oil prices to normal levels is removing Iran's obstacles in the Strait of Hormuz, where nearly one-fifth of global oil supply transits. Iran's blockade, including drone attacks on tankers and potential mining operations, has driven prices to approximately $100 per barrel. Healey discussed this with European defence ministers, noting UK autonomous systems and a mine-hunting vessel could detect mines. A recent attack on tankers off Iraq's coast resulted in one fatality. The UK and US Navy may escort vessels through the strait by month's end, with France offering potential assistance if conflict de-escalates.
