Minister of Works Dave Umahi today defended the Tinubu administration, stating insecurity in Nigeria didn't begin with their government. Speaking with journalists, Umahi noted security challenges increase whenever elections approach and appealed to Nigerians to stop politicizing the issue.

'Insecurity didn't start with this administration,' the minister emphasized. 'It is very unfortunate. Security is the job of everyone. Security should not be politicised.'

The minister highlighted a pattern: 'Why is it that anytime we are approaching elections, there is heightened insecurity?' He criticized what he called 'extreme politicians' who insult President Tinubu over security matters.

With Nigeria approaching the 2027 election cycle, Umahi's statement comes amid ongoing security challenges across the country. His appeal suggests the administration may face increased scrutiny as elections draw near.

How should Nigerians balance holding government accountable with recognizing that security challenges transcend individual administrations?
