Umahi says Peter Obi not a threat to Tinubu, calls him brother

Minister of Works Dave Umahi, speaking on Channels Television's Sunday Politics, stated that Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, is not a threat to President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election bid, describing Obi as his brother and friend. Umahi noted his longstanding position of integrating the Southeast into the national mainstream, referencing his past call for Southeast voters to give Buhari 25% and Atiku 75% during Buhari's presidency. He emphasized that other Southeast candidates are also contesting, so Obi alone does not threaten the APC's prospects in the region. Umahi challenged anyone aspiring to rule the country to show proof of community development during their tenure. The statement reflects ongoing political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections, suggesting the APC is confident of retaining support in the Southeast despite opposition candidacies. Consider how such endorsements or dismissals might influence voter perceptions in your state as the election cycle approaches.
