UN Chief Warns US-Israel-Iran Conflict Escalating Beyond Control
UN Secretary-General António Guterres declared the US-Israel war against Iran is "out of control", warning of a potential wider war, human suffering, and global economic shock. He appointed veteran diplomat Jean Arnault as Personal Envoy to lead peace efforts, urging all sides to step back from escalation. Guterres emphasized diplomacy must prevail, stressing "War is not the answer" and calling for full respect of international law. The conflict threatens the Strait of Hormuz chokepoint, disrupting oil, gas and fertiliser supplies and risking global food security. "Without fertilisers today, we might have hunger tomorrow," he warned. Arnault will work directly on the ground to support mediation efforts across all parties.
