On September 29, 2026, US-based policy advisory and lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York stated on its verified X handle that America’s anti-terror partnership with Nigeria is not an open-ended support. The firm praised the Trump administration for selling Nigeria the weapons it needs to tackle insecurity, calling it a good development that shows Washington’s strong desire to counter terrorism in the country. However, it warned that shared interests in fighting terrorism do not mean the United States will support the Nigerian government in all regards, and emphasized that the US will never condone Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s alleged role in heroin trafficking from Nigeria to the United States during the 1980s and 1990s. The firm drew a comparison to Venezuela, saying US interests remain aligned only until they become unaligned. The statement comes amid ongoing discussions about US-Nigeria security cooperation and recent approvals of arms sales to Nigeria.
