US Treasury sanctioned 14 individuals, entities, and aircraft based in Iran, Türkiye, and UAE on Tuesday for supplying missiles and drones to Iran's regime. The action targets procurers of weapons components, including Shahed-series one-way attack UAVs that Iran uses to target energy infrastructure in the region.

This sanctions wave, authorized by Trump's presidential memorandum, aims to curb Iran's military and nuclear capabilities after the US claimed Iran's capabilities were 'severely diminished' following Operation Epic Fury. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated Iran must be held accountable for 'extortion of global energy markets and indiscriminate targeting of civilians.'

For Nigeria, as a major oil producer, heightened tensions in the Gulf could influence global energy prices and regional security dynamics. Will these sanctions effectively curb Iran's drone/missile proliferation, or push Tehran toward more aggressive tactics affecting international shipping and energy supplies?
