US naval blockade on Iranian ports and Trump's retracted Strait of Hormuz cargo charge pushed Brent crude to $87/barrel this week, reversing recent oil price declines. WTI also rose to $80/barrel, dashing hopes that June's US-Iran MoU would quickly translate to lower Nigerian pump prices.

In Nigeria, where petrol had fallen to ₦1,075/litre in July after peaking at ₦1,500 in May, analysts say relief may be delayed. Retail prices don't immediately reflect crude drops because marketers still hold stock bought at higher costs and must service loans. As Vestance analyst Razaq Fatai explained, "businesses are quicker to increase prices when costs rise but slower to reduce them when prices fall."

The Dangote refinery's shift to dollar-priced fuel adds volatility, tying local costs to forex fluctuations. With global prices likely to stay high amid renewed Gulf tensions, Nigerians may wait longer for pump prices to approach pre-war levels below ₦900/litre.

Will you adjust your budget for continued high transport costs, or seek alternatives like carpooling and public transit as prices remain stubbornly elevated?
