The US Central Command confirmed on Wednesday April 15 that its naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, begun Monday April 14, has turned back ten vessels, with zero breaches. An Iranian-flagged cargo ship that had left Bandar Abbas and was moving along Iran’s coast was intercepted by the guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111) and forced to reverse course toward Iranian waters. According to Daily Post, the blockade follows President Donald Trump’s announcement and has already pushed crude oil prices above $100 per barrel.

This matters because the Strait of Hormuz transports about 20% of the world’s oil; any disruption threatens global energy supplies and can spike Nigeria’s oil export revenue and domestic fuel costs. Higher pump prices would raise transport expenses for businesses and households across the country.

No ship has successfully passed the restriction so far, and US enforcement continues. Monitor global oil price trends and consider budgeting for possible fuel increases; alternative shipping routes add significant time and cost. Will you adjust your transport budget or seek alternatives if fuel prices climb further?
