US to issue Trump-face passports for 250th independence anniversary
The US will roll out limited-edition passports featuring President Trump's face on the inside cover to celebrate the country's 250th independence anniversary in July. The State Department announced the new design on Tuesday, which includes a blue-and-white image of Trump's face imposed over the Declaration of Independence text, along with the US flag and Trump's signature in gold.
The passport will be the default issued by the passport agency in Washington, while existing designs continue to be issued online and in other locations. This is part of the America250 initiative, which also includes a UFC fight at the White House and a Grand Prix street race.
The passport represents Trump's broader effort to have his image on US institutions, following banners at the Department of Justice, a commemorative gold coin, and his signature being added to dollar bills. The design retains all existing security features while adding custom artwork.
As the US approaches its 250th birthday, how will this presidential commemoration impact how Americans view their national identity and institutions?
