USsanctions entities in Iran, Turkey, UAE over weapons procurement

The United States has designated individuals and entities in Iran, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates for supporting Iran's ballistic missile and advanced conventional weapons development. The sanctions target shadow fleet vessels and owners transporting Iranian petroleum and petrochemical products worth hundreds of millions of dollars. State Department spokesperson Thomas Pigott stated the action counters Iran's "aggressive development" of weapons and denies the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps access to assets sustaining its activities. The sanctions support UN reimposition of embargoes due to Iran's "significant non-performance" of nuclear commitments. Additional sanctions were imposed on 18 Iranian officials and telecommunications leaders following January shootings. The measures affect approximately 60 individuals involved in human rights violations.
