Venezia coach Nicola praises Akor Adams after goal vs Napoli
Venezia head coach Davide Nicola praised Super Eagles striker Akor Adams after his decisive goal secured Venezia's first Serie A win of the season, a 1-0 victory over Napoli on Saturday, Oct 16, 2026. Nicola, who took over this week on a two-year deal replacing Giovanni Stroppa, said Adams 'demonstrates commitment and dedication, arrived with the intention to contribute, and possesses several highly significant attributes,' adding that the player is receptive, shows character, supports the collective effort and has substantial potential for development. Adams scored in the fourth minute of the second half, exploiting a defensive lapse and finishing past goalkeeper Alex Meret after a long throw-in from Simon Sohm. The goal brings his season tally to four goals and one assist in nine appearances for Venezia, following his summer transfer from Sevilla. Internationally, he netted a late equalizer in the 3-3 friendly draw with Russia on Oct 6.
For Nigerian fans, Adams' growing impact in Italy highlights the quality of homegrown talent abroad and could influence his prospects for future Super Eagles call-ups, especially as the team prepares for upcoming qualifiers. His ability to contribute immediately under a new coach shows adaptability and professionalism.
Will Adams maintain this form and attract interest from bigger European clubs, or should Nigeria's coaching staff consider him a regular option for the national team ahead of the next qualifiers?
