Veteran Nollywood actor Professor Kola Oyewo passes away at age 80

Veteran Nollywood actor and scholar Professor Kola Oyewo died at age 80. His son, Adetoyese Oyewo, announced the passing on Friday via a Facebook post, describing his father as a man marked by 'love, wisdom, strength and kindness' and expressing the family's grief while celebrating his life of service, learning and the arts.

Professor Oyewo was widely recognised as one of Nigeria’s leading figures in theatre and performing arts. Over several decades he worked as an actor, teacher and cultural advocate, helping to develop and preserve Yoruba theatre and promote Nigerian culture on stage, screen and in the classroom. His contributions earned respect across the entertainment and academic communities.

The family has asked for prayers and support during this mourning period, saying they remain grateful for the legacy he left through the memories of family, friends, colleagues and admirers whose lives he influenced. No details about funeral arrangements have been released yet.
