WAEC Releases 2026 CB-WASSCE Results: 32.7% Pass with English, Maths
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released results for the 2026 First Series Computer-Based WASSCE (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates. The exam ran from January 28 to February 14, 2026, across 166 centers nationwide, with 10,480 candidates sitting out of 10,523 registered (an 11.49% increase from 2025).
Performance shows 43.87% (4,598 candidates) secured credit passes in at least five subjects, while 32.72% (3,429) achieved the same including English Language and Mathematics—an improvement from 26.96% in 2025. Female candidates slightly outperformed males in the core English/Math category (46.14% vs 53.86% male). However, 75 candidates (0.72%) had results withheld pending malpractice investigations.
Results processing is complete for 80.32% of candidates; the remaining 19.68% face delays due to candidate errors. WAEC confirms 43 candidates with special needs (including visually impaired and hearing impaired) received adequate accommodations.
Candidates should check results online via WAEC's portal and access digital certificates. Hard copy certificates require separate application. With the CBT transition ongoing, this marks another step in WAEC's digital shift.
Is the gradual performance improvement evidence that CBT is benefiting private candidates, or are other factors like increased candidate preparedness driving the change?
