Warri Wolves scrape 1-0 win over Kwara United in Ozoro as coach cites determination
Warri Wolves secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Kwara United in Ozoro earlier today, with Eventus Itolowo scoring the early goal that proved decisive. Despite taking the lead, Wolves conceded dominance to Kwara United for much of the match, forcing them into a defensive stance to preserve the win. Technical adviser Hassan Abdallah acknowledged his team were second best but praised their determination and resilience in seeing out the result, reflecting on Nigeria Football's reality where 'it's better you don't play well and win' than play well and lose.
The win, while crucial for Wolves' points tally, highlights ongoing concerns about their consistency and ability to control games against mid-table opposition. Abdallah's comments suggest the team may be relying heavily on grit rather than sustained performance—a strategy that could face tougher tests as the season progresses against stronger squads. Ozoro, a Delta State town, hosted the match amid typical NPFL competitive intensity where results often outweigh stylistic merit.
With Wolves banking on resilience to secure points, can this approach yield consistent results against higher-quality opponents later in the season, or will they need to improve their game management to avoid dropping points in similar encounters?
