WhatsApp Lets You Pick a Username to Connect More Privately Starting Now
WhatsApp lets users reserve usernames starting this week (late June 2026) to connect without sharing phone numbers, with full rollout later this year. The feature boosts privacy by letting you share a username instead of your digits when connecting on the app.
You can grab your preferred username now via Settings > Account > Username in the app - do it soon as popular names get taken fast. Businesses and creators can also match their existing Instagram or Facebook handles for consistent online identity across Meta platforms.
This builds on WhatsApp's recent privacy pushes like the Incognito Chat feature from May. With over 3 billion users, name overlaps are real - early reservation lets you secure what matters to you.
