The two leaders were re-elected by consensus on Sunday during the faction’s elective national convention held at the velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.  The exercise drew over 2,500 delegates from across the country, who also endorsed a 19-member National Working Committee (NWC) and other national officers. The motion for the re-election was moved by the House of Representatives Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, and received unanimous approval from delegates, signalling a strong show of unity within the Wike-backed faction. They were re-elected by consensus. Mr Mohammed was the PDP national vice chairman (North Central) until last year, when the faction appointed him as the chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC), while Mr Anyanwu was the party’s national secretary. Other key officers affirmed include Aaron Chukwuemeka as deputy national chairman (South), Yusufu Akirikwen as deputy national chairman (North), Kolawale Olabisi as deputy national secretary, Odeyemei Oladiran as national treasurer, and Lado Marke as deputy national treasurer.  Members of the NWC also include Eyim Donatus Henry, Grema Kyari, Umar Mohammed Bature, Efere Augustine, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, Egwu Goodluck Chidiebere, Kamaldeen Ajibade, Aloysius Uba, Osuoha Donatus, Adaba Yatu, Ibrahim Aboki, and Momoh Dejih Eugene Bashir.  Ogunshe Adedayo was appointed as the national women leader, and Hauwa Shinge as the deputy national women leader. This convention follows months of internal tension, including disagreements over party primaries and leadership appointments at both the state and national levels.  The PDP has been divided into rival factions largely stemming from leadership disputes and regional political rivalries.  The Wike-backed faction has positioned itself as a counterbalance to other groups within the party, arguing for reforms and more transparent processes in party governance. Mr Wike, a former governor of Rivers State who is serving as minister in the APC federal government, has been actively involved in shaping the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of future elections.  With the convention concluded, the Wike-backed PDP faction is expected to focus on party mobilisation and preparing for upcoming electoral contests in 2027.
