FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has issued an immediate ban on transforming public recreational areas and green spaces into car dealerships across Abuja, specifically citing Millennium Park vicinity. The directive, announced Wednesday during project inspections, aims to mitigate flooding affecting parts of the city.

Wike declared the practice unacceptable, stating car traders must purchase land for legal operations instead of encroaching on parks. A specialised task force has been activated to enforce compliance and remove all unauthorised auto dealers from green zones, with penalties for violators.

The minister emphasized: 'If you want to sell your car, you go and purchase somewhere and then develop it.' This affects informal car markets operating in Abuja's green belts, pushing traders toward formal commercial land acquisition.

Where will displaced dealers find affordable land for car sales, and how will this impact Abuja's informal automobile economy?
