Social media platform X has admitted lapses in content moderation and assured India's government of full compliance with local laws. The company reportedly blocked approximately 3,500 pieces of content and removed over 600 accounts following directives from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The crackdown targets vulgar, unlawful, and obscene content—particularly material generated through X's AI chatbot Grok. According to The Economic Times, X is introducing enhanced safeguards for Grok, including stricter image-generation filters and measures to prevent misuse of user images. MeitY is currently reviewing X's detailed submission outlining steps taken to mitigate inappropriate content. This action is specific to India and does not affect Nigerian users. However, it highlights ongoing global pressure on social media platforms to moderate AI-generated content. Nigerian regulators have previously expressed similar concerns about misinformation and harmful content on major platforms.
