Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Wins ZIK Peace Award in Ghana for Reforms
Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal was honoured with the ZIK International Peace and Leadership Award at the 7th ceremony held Friday at the British Council in Accra, Ghana. The award cited his administration’s progress over the last three years, including urban renewal, the construction of a modern state‑of‑the‑art airport—the first in the state for over 30 years—and reforms in security, civil service, education and health. Nasarawa Governor Abdullahi A Sule also received an award for public service and sustainable development.
The recognition matters because it spotlights tangible governance improvements in a state often associated with insecurity, potentially boosting investor confidence and offering a model for other states facing similar challenges. For Nigerians, it raises questions about whether such accolades reflect real‑world changes on the ground or are largely ceremonial.
With Zamfara now receiving international praise for reforms, will residents see measurable gains in safety, infrastructure and public services, or should citizens continue to demand accountability and concrete results from their leaders?
