What happened: Zenith Bank Plc disclosed on Wednesday that it is investigating an unauthorised access to customers’ data, emphasizing that the breach does not involve financial information and has not affected its banking services or digital channels. The bank said the incident is part of a broader global cyber‑attack targeting multiple international organisations across sectors and that it immediately activated its incident‑response protocols, intensified cybersecurity measures and remediation efforts.

Why it matters: Although no money was stolen, any exposure of personal data raises risks of phishing, identity theft and social‑engineering scams. The incident adds to a string of cybersecurity challenges facing Nigerian banks, following earlier NDPC investigations into alleged breaches at Sterling Bank, Remita and the Corporate Affairs Commission, and recent social‑media suspensions by lenders over impersonation fraud.

What you should know/do: Zenith Bank urges customers to stay alert to suspicious emails, texts or calls and never to share passwords, PINs, OTPs or other security credentials. Its online and mobile banking platforms remain fully operational. If you receive unexpected requests for sensitive information, treat them as potential phishing and report them to the bank through official channels.
